GB and I BEAT CANADA, JOIN AUSSIES AT TOP
OF ASTOR TROPHY TABLE
Great Britain and Ireland beat Canada 5-2 on Day 3 of the Astor Trophy women's amateur match-play team tournament to join Australia at the top of the table at Grange Golf Club, Adelaide, South Australia.
GB and I and the Aussies have both won twice and their Day 4 match could decide the championship.
New Zealand, who beat the Ladies Golf Union team on Day 1, but lost to Australia on Tuesday, suffered their second defeat. They lost 4-3 to South Africa.
On another very windy day, GB and I's unchanged foursomes line-up gave the defending champions a 2-0 lunchtime lead for the second day in a row. However, Canada levelled it at 2-2 overall when they won the top two afternoon singles.
Curtis Cup player Bronte Law suffered her first reverse of the tournament, losing by 2 and 1 to Naomi Ko.
Chloe Williams lost the No 2 singles by 4 and 3.
Scot Connie Jaffrey turned the tide with a 3 and 1 win over Jaclyn Lee and wins by Charlotte Thomas (5 and 4) and Hayley Davis (2 holes) meant GB and I took the singles 3-2 for a 5-2 overall victory.
