GB and I, BEATEN BY AUSSIES, LOSE
GRIP ON ASTOR TROPHY
Great Britain and Ireland have lost their grip on the Astor Trophy they have held since 2007.
They completed their four-match programme today with a 5.5-1.5 defeat at the hands of hosts Australia on Day 4 at Grange Golf Club, Adelaide, South Australia.
So the Ladies Golf Union team finished with 2pt, and Australia already have 3pt with a last-day match against South Africa still to come.
South Africa moved up to 2pt by beating Canada 5-2 today.
GB and I halved the foursomes 1-1 with the Aussies, Bronte Law and Chloe Williams winning by 2 and 1.
But GB and I did not manage to win any of the singles and went under by 4.5-1.5.
Only Law managed to secure half-a-point in the afternoon play. She had a square match with the Australian No 1 Shelly Shin. Law finished the top GB and I player over their four matches. She amassed 6.5pt out of a possible eight.
Australia last won the Astor Trophy in 1995, 1999 and 2003. The tournament is played every four years.
