IT JUST DIDN'T GO OUR WAY IN FINAL

SINGLES, says SKIPPER ELAINE

GB and I team captain Elaine Farquharson-Black said after losing their final match to Australia:
"Disappointing finish for us. It just didn't go our way in our final set of singles against Australia.  The matches were all close as you would expect at this level. The GB and I girls played some great golf over the four days with no rest

"It is the most intensive tournament that they play, with two practice rounds followed by two rounds per day for four days in a row."

DAY FOUR NOTES FROM GB AND I v AUSTRALIA

By COLIN FARQUHARSON

Bronte Law and Chloe Williams kept GB and I on level terms at lunch with a 2 and 1 foursomes win over Shelly Shin and Jenny Lee.
Law and Williams, pictured below, this morning,  battled hard, hitting only two greens in regulation on the front nine, yet getting to two up after seven holes before losing the eighth and ninth to turn all square.
The GB and I pair birdied 10 and 14 to regain a two-hole advantage and then 16, 17 and 18 for victory.

Charlotte Thomas and Hayley Davis won the first two holes against Hannah Green and Becky Kay but lost by one hole in the end - the only foursomes lost by GB and I over the four days.
The Aussies won the third (with a birdie) and the fourth (with a par) but Thomas and Davis won the fifth. Green and Kay birdied both the seventh and eighth to be one up at the turn.
Thomas and Davis went two down at the  10th but got one back at the 14th.
Three halves in par at 16,17 and 18 meant GB and I  lost by hole and shared the foursomes 1-1 overall.
In the top singles match in the afternoon, Bronte Law and Shelly Shin both played excellent golf in a halved match.
Bronte won the first, but Shelly won next with a birdie. Bronte then won 5th where Shelly missed a short putt. Law  birdied the sixth to go two up. Law missed the green at the sixth and didn't get up and down, so back to a one-holed lead. Holes 8 and 9 were halved.
Bronte lost 10th when her approach shot went through the back into the bunker to be back to square.
Shin had a birdie 2 at 13th, to go one up for first time. Next three holes halved in par. Bronte hit it into 8ft at 15th but lipped out. Law got up and down at 16 to save par after being in the bunker off the tee
One down with two to play, Law holed an 8ft birdie putt to square the contest at the 17th.
At 18, the Australian hit her approach to the back of the green, but it came back down off the slope to around 4 ft. Bronte hit her approach to about 8 ft and holed for her birdie, but Shelly followed her in for a square game.

Chloe Williams lost the first two holes to birdies from Hannah Green, but birdied  the fourth to get back to one down and won the seventh to be all square. The Australian birdied the eighth and Chloe bogeyed the ninth to be two down at turn. Williams lost the 10th to a birdie and then bogeyed the 15th to lose by 4 and 3.

Connie Jaffrey was one up after four holes against Becky Kay but lost the fifth to a birdie 2 and then bogeyed the seventh and ninth to be two down at the turn. The Troon player won the 10th and the 12th, with a birdie to be all square again but lost the 13th with a bogey and the 14th to a birdie. Jaffrey  bogeyed 15 after being long through the green and her opponent birdied 16 to win 4 and 3..

Charlotte Thomas, playing Jenny Lee,  won the first, but lost the third to a par, then the fifth to a birdie and the sixth to a par to be two down.
Thomas  won the seventh but  lost the eighth. Thomas won the ninth, where Australia drove into the trees.  Charlotte lost 10th to a birdie to be two down and also 12th to a birdie to go three down.
The GB and I player won 14th with a par, but then halved 15, 16 and 17 to lose 2 and 1.
Charlotte had a lot of putts which shaved the hole and wouldn't drop in morning and afternoon.

Hayley Davis's match against Gennai Goodwin was very up and down as they exchanged holes. Hayley won the first, but lost 2nd and third to pars. They halved 4th in birdies and Hayley won the 5th with a par when Australia missed the green right and didn't get up and down.
Davis won 6th with a par to be 1 up, but bogeyed the next to lose, won 8th with par to be 1 up and had a chance to go 2 up when they both overshot the green into bunker and Australia hit out over the green -  but Hayley three-putted.
Lots of birdies on the back nine. They halved 10th in birdies. Then Australia birdied 11 and Hayley birdied 12 to go back to 1 up, but Australia birdied 13th be back to square.
Both birdied 14th. Hayley then bogeyed 15 when she went through the green on her approach shot to be 1 down. Halved 16th and 17th.
At the 18th, both were through the green in two shots. Hayley's pitch was too hard downhill and she left herself a long putt for par which stopped on the lip. The Australian's putt from off the green barely made the green then slowly rolled down the same slope which helped Shelly Shin earlier and she holed about a 2 footer for par and to win by 2 holes.
