SCOT KARIS PLAYS IN AUSTRALIA'S

LAKE MACQUARIE EVENT

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Karis Davidson, the 16-year-old Innerleithen-born Scot who is the top ranked Under-18 girl golfer in Australia, is in the field for the Lake Macquarie Women's Open 72-hole tournament, which tees off at Belmont Golf Club, New South Wales on Sunday.
The only other British-born player among the entries is Ann Greatorex (Royal Blackheath GC).
Among Karis's opponents will be the complete New Zealand team of five who will be competing against GB and Ireland, Australia, Canada and South Africa the following week at the Grange Golf Club, Adelaide, South Australia.
And we are still waiting for hosts Australia to name their team!
Will Karis (pictured on right by Cal Carson Golf Agency) be named in the Aussie team? It's a possibility because she is world-ranked in the leading 50s/60s.
Had she made herself available, Miss Davidson could have been chosen to play for GB and I, defending champions, having won the Astor Trophy - formerly the Commonwealth Tournament - at Fairhaven GC, Lancashire in 2011. The team match-play tournament is played only every four years.

Look out for the daily scores from the Lake Macquarie Women's Tournament on this website from Sunday onwards.
