BRONTE LAW JUST OUTSIDE TOP 10 AT NEW ORLEANS

Curtis Cup international team-mates Bronte Law (UCLA) and Gemma Dryburgh (Tulane) finished T12 and T38 respectively in a field of 81 players at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate tournament over 54 holes at English Turn Golf and Country Club, New Orleans today, writes Colin Farquharson
The competition's last day was marked by frigid conditions but at least they were able to complete the tournament which did not happen in at least two other events whose final rounds were abandoned because of the wintry weather.

Second-year student Law, pictured, from Bramhall Golf Club, Cheshire scored 71, 78 and 74 for seven-over-par 223. She finished 11 shots behind the joint winners, Louisiana State's Scandinavian pair, Madelene Sagstrom (68-73-71) and Caroline Nistrump (71-70-71), both four-under 212.
Final-year student Dryburgh, born in Aberdeen but a member of Beaconsfield Golf Club, improved with each round - 80, 77 and 74 for 231.
Brogan  Townend (Texas-San Antonio), a third-year student from Blackburn, finished T51 on 237 with scores of 79, 84 and 74.
Alison Knowles from Mexborough, Yorkshire and a transfer to Michigan State from Louisiana-Monroe, shot 74, 81 and 84 for 239 and  a T63 finish for the third-year student.
Becky MGeehan, another Texas-San Antiono player, finished on 245 with scores of 80, 79 and 86. She finished 78th in the field of 81.
LSU, not surprisingly, won the team title by 12 strokes (874) from Florida and UCLA, both on 886. Arizona and Tulane tied for four place on 892.
Michigan State were 13th in the final of 15 teams. They totalled 936.
Texas-San Antonio tied for 14th place on 944.
