Canada’s Brooke Mackenzie Henderson, the world’s top-ranked amateur before turning pro in December, advanced through a Monday qualifier to earn a spot in this week’s Pure Silk Bahamas Classic. It will be Henderson’s first start as a pro in an LPGA event.
Henderson, 17, was runner-up in the U.S. Women’s Amateur and low amateur at the U.S. Women’s Open last summer.
Henderson topped a field of 25 players in the LPGA Tour qualifier at the Ocean Club Golf Course at Paradise Island with a 4-under-par 69. That’s the same course where the Pure Silk event will be played. Rebecca Lee-Bentham, also Canadian, shot 70 to take the other qualifying spot.
Henderson played in four LPGA events as an amateur last year, making the cut in all of them. She won her pro debut last week, prevailing in a Suncoast Series women’s mini-tour event at West Orange Country Club in Winter Garden, Florida where she overhauled her older sister Brittany at the last few holes of the 54-hole tournament.
