CATHERINE BAILEY DIES AT 83 IN UNITED STATES

Catherine Mary Bailey (Tandridge Golf Club, Oxted, Surrey) passed away on February 4. She was 83.
"Catherine only became ill in the past two months, and was enjoying a holiday with us (her sons) in America where we now live," said son Peter in an E-mail.
"She passed away very fast with late stage cancer and gladly did not suffer."
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Thursday, February 12 at St Mary's Tatsfield, Church Hill, Tatsfield, Surrey TN16 2JX
A funeral reception will be held at Tandridge Golf Club, Godstone Road, Oxted RH8 9NQ directly afterwards.

Mrs Bailey was one of Britain's leading senior lady golfers in the late 1980s into the 1990s.
She was an England senior international from 1987 to 1995
She was British senior ladies champion in 1988 and 1989, having been runner-up in 1986
Catherine was England's senior lady champion in 1986, 1987, 1989 and 1991.
Representing Tandridge Golf Club with Mrs Sue Birley, Mrs Bailey won the London Foursomes in 1980 and 1983.
She was Surrey county champion in 1988, having represented Surrey for many years and was a member of at least three winning teams in the English women's county championship finals.


The Tandridge Golf Club has the following statement on its website:
" Members will be saddened to hear of the death of Catherine Bailey.
"Catherine was a lifelong supporter of Surrey golf and is remembered as a great competitor with a lively personality and sense of humour.
At Tandridge, she was Lady Captain in 1994, holds the course record and won the Club Championship many times. She represented the club in numerous Surrey competitions, was
part of a winning Druce Team and won the Inter Club Scratch Foursomes with Sue Birley.


Catherine Bailey was born at Kandy, Sri Lanka. Her father; Mr. Paton, was stationed there while working for the Bank of Scotland.
They moved back to Scotland when she was about eight, just as World War II broke out in 1939. They lived in the Abbey cottage at Fintray.
