HEWSON AND DUNNE GO DOWN IN SPANISH 

QUARTER-FINALS

Alice Hewson (Berkhamsted) and Maria Dunne (Skerries) were beaten in this morning's quarter-finals of the Spanish women's open amateur match-play championship at Seville.
Alice went down by 2 and 1 to the No 9 qualifier, Olivia Cowan (Germany), daughter of a Liverpool-born club pro in Germany and  winner of the recent Portuguese open amateur title.
Cowan was one up at the turn but Hewson squared it at the 10th.
Cowan re-established the lead to be two up after 15.
Maria lost by 7 and 5 to Sweden's Linnea Strom who took a stranglehold on the outcome when she was four up after six holes and six up at the turn.

Maria Lunackova (Czech Rep) (15) bt Xiaolin Tian (Italy) (10)2 holes.
