RHYS PUGH TOP BRIT IN JONES CUP INVITATIONAL
British amateur champion Bradley Neil from Blairgowrie's last few holes - bogeys at 15th and 16th, double bogey at 18th - just about summed up how he played to finish joint 53rd in a field of 83 at the prestigious Jones Cup Invitational over three rounds at Ocean Forest Golf Club, Sea Island, Georgia at the weekend.
Neil's scores over a par-72 course of 7,321yd - 78, 78 and 75 - for 15-over-par 231 underline the fact that the Scot did not take his "A" game across the Atlantic to play some of the best US college golfers.
Ewan Scott, pictured below, from St Andrews, a student at Tennessee-Chattanooga and the 2013 Scottish youths champion, was the only other Scot in the field.
He finished creditable joint 22nd on 225 with rounds of 75, 76 and 74. Scott teed off his final round today (Sunday) with a triple bogey 7 and a bogey at the ninth put him out in four-over 40.
But it was a different story on the inward nine. Scott birdied the 10th, 12th and 14th and only a bogey at the 18th cost him a place in the top 20.
Highest British finisher was former Walker Cup player Rhys Pugh from Pontypridd, Wales and a student at East Tennessee State University.
He shot 73, 74 and 74 for 221 and a share of eighth place.
Two Americans tied at the top of the leaderboard on level par 216 - Austin Connelly (71-77-68) and Kyle Jones (68-73-75)
