SCOTS FORREST AND WILSON MAKE TOP
TWENTY AT TUCSON, ARIZONA
Former Scottish amateur champion Grant Forrest, in his final year at San Diego University, California, finished joint 12th in a field of 83 players at the National Invitational college golf tournament which finished on Monday over the Tucson National course, Arizona, writes Colin Farquharson.
Forrest had rounds of 72, 73 and 72 for a one-over-par total of 217 in latterly wet and windy conditions. He finished 12 shots behind the winner by seven, Scott Fernandez (Iowa State) who had scores of 70, 66 and 69.
San Diego finished eighth of 15 in the team event won by California Berkeley whose team included Alexander Wilson from Edinburgh and Derbyshire's Cameron Shaw.
Wilson, a former Loretto School pupil, scored 74, 75 and 69 for a T17 finish individually on two-over 218 - his highest placing yet in a US college event (he red-shirted, i.e. did not play for the team, in the 2013-2014 season).
Shaw. a member of Chevin Golf Club, shot 72-71-76 for 219 and a T20 finish.
It was the Golden Bears' fourth team win of the 2014-15 college season.
UPDATES FROM OTHER COLLEGE TOURNAMENTS
England's international trio of Charlotte Thomas (Washington), Hayley Davis (Baylor) and Bronte Law (UCLA) shot opening rounds of 68, 69 and 70 respectively in the rain-hit Bruin Wave Invitational at El Cabellero Country Club, Tarzana in California.
There's a field of 81 players trying to finish that tournament today.
Jessica Bradley (Lynn University) was lying T15 in a field of 85 players after the first round of the Armstrong Pirate Women's Invitational at Savannah Quarters Country Club, Pooler in Georgia.
Jessica was six shots behind the joint leaders.
Rachel Polson (Florida Tech) had a 77 and Daisy-May Kenny a 79.
That tournament also schedule to finish Tuesday
