GRANT FORREST LYING 10TH IN
SAN DIEGO CLASSIC
North Berwick's Grant Forrest, Scottish amateur champion at Royal Dornoch in 2012 and in his last few months as a student at San Diego University, California, is lying joint 10th in a field of 87 players after two rounds of the San Diego Classic college tournament at San Diego Country Club, Chula Vista, writes Colin Farquharson.
Forrest, pictured left, has had rounds of 72 and 70 for a 36-hole tally of two-under 142 over a par-72 course of 7,033yd.
He is eight shots behind the leader - world-ranked No 8 Gavin Green (New Mexico University) who has gone six shots clear of the field with a pair of 67s for 10-under 134.
Green, pictured right, comes from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia but his name suggests that he has British parentage.
He was the first amateur to win on the Asian Tour and has been ranked as high as No 4 amateur in the world.
Forrest is No 46 in the world amateur rankings.
LOFTY GREY IN THE MIX AT TIGER INVITATIONAL
J J Grey, a 6ft 4in third-year student from Kent at Georgia State University, is tied fourth, one stroke behind a triple tie for the lead after 36 holes of the Tiger Invitational over the Grand National Lales course at Opelika, Alabama.
Grey, pictured, has had rounds of 70 and 69 for five-under-par 139 over a par-72 course of 7,149yd.
Sharing the lead on 138 are Taylor Coalson (UNCG) 68-70, Hayden Shieh (Santa Clara) 69-69 and Michael Johnson (Auburn) 72-66.
Another Englishman in the field of 90 players, Tomasz Anderson (Jacksonville State) from Brocket Hall GC, Hertfordshire, is T13 on 143 (73-70).
