MEGHAN MacLAREN WINS AGAIN

 WITH LAST-ROUND SURGE

Three birdies in a final one-under-par round of 71 earned British women's amateur stroke-play champion Meghan MacLaren her sixth win on the American women's college circuit at the Mountain View Collegiate at Tucson, Arizona today, writes Colin Farquharson.
To beat forecast bad weekend weather, two rounds were played today, following the first round on Friday, and Florida International third-year student Meghan improved from second overnight to winner by one stroke from Chonlada Chayanun (Iowa State), the first-round leader) and joint second Anna Appert (Purdue).
MacLaren, a member at Wellingborough Golf Club, had rounds of 69, 69 and 71 for a seven-under-par total of 209.  
It was her second win in recent weeks and the third of her junior year at Florida International. She won three times as a freshman.
She will be hoping to gain automatic selection through the World Rankings or the LGU Order of Merit to the nine-strong GB and I team for the Vagliano Trophy match against the Continent of Europe at Malone Golf Club, Belfast in June or at the very least one of the LGU Selection Panel's third wild-card picks.
Her mother Mary is an Ireland senior international and her dad David a director on the European Tour.
Megan Garland (Arkansas State), a final year student from Goole, Yorkshire finished T20 on 217 with rounds of 72, 70 and 75.
GB and I Astor Trophy team Scot Connie Jaffrey (Kansas State), a freshman from Kilwinning, Ayrshire, shot rounds of 77, 71 and 72.
 for a T34 finished on 220.
Charlotte Hindmoor (Old Dominion), a third-year student from Darlington, posted scores of 78, 74 an d74 for 226 and a T65 placing.
Freshman Clara Young (Missouri), the youngest ever East Lothian women's county champion, had scores of 78, 77 and 73 for 228 and T70 position.
Team-mate Jess Meek, a second-year player from Carnoustie, had a nightmare final round of 82 after earlier scores of 75 and 72. Jess plummeted to T79 with a 229 aggregate.
Another Scot, Rachel Walker (Old Dominion), a sophomore from Dumfries finished T87 on 231 with rounds of 79, 76 and 76.
Abigail Laker (Arkansas State), a junior from Oxfordshire, finished 103rd in a field of 105 with scores of 82, 83 and 81 for 245.


Ohio State (856) won the team title ahead of runners-up Florida International (861) with Kansas State and Purdue tied for third on 864. Missouri (888) finished 14th, Old Dominion (901) 16th and Arkansas State (915) last of 20 

+The top 4 eligible players in the Women's World Amateur Rankings at a cut-off point yet to be made known will gain automatic selection to the GB and I team of nine for the 2015 Vagliano Trophy match.
