SUSAN PENMAN LEADING SENIOR SCOT IN SPAIN
Susan Penman (Gullane Ladies) was the leading Scot in a field of 90 at the end of the first round of the Spanish senior women's open amateur individual championship at La Manga Golf Resort today.
Susan had a 92 for a share of 47th place.
Clubmate Lesley Johnston, who, as Lesley Hope, won the Scottish women's amateur championship in 1975, marked up a 93 to be T53 and Anne Brownie, also Gullane Ladies, had a 97 for joint 72nd place.
At the sharp end of the tournament, two of the top four players are from Spain but also in the mix is England's Lindsey Shaw. She is in a three-way tie for second place on 77, one behind the leader, Casilda Castillejo.
Amanda Mayne, with an 81 for a share of seventh place, was another England player in the top 10 at halfway.
