I GOT HOT ON THE BACK NINE, SAYS

DELHI, Louisiana  – Behind a dominant performance in the back nine that helped the Warhawks make up eight strokes on UALR, the ULM men’s golf team claimed its first team title of the season Tuesday afternoon at the Wallace Jones Invitational at the Black Bear Golf Club.
“It was really a lot of fun and exciting to get the first tournament of the spring off to a good start,” head coach Walt Williams said. “We started a bit slow this morning but came roaring back on the back-nine and shot eight under par as a group to pull out the victory.”
Fuelled by second and third round scores of 280 (-8) and 287 (-1), ULM shot 861 (-3) as a team to finish the tournament as co-champions with conference foe Arkansas-Little Rock.
Sophomore sensation Calum Hill carded a 205 (-11) to capture the first individual championship of his career on the US college golf circuit.
“It’s good to finally get a win,” Hill said. “Being so close a few times, it felt great to close one out. I got hot in the back nine and beat a guy who I’ve played a lot of matches against so it was nice to get one up on him. 
"A win like this is great for us as a team moving forward with only a few tournaments remaining.”
The sophomore from Edinburgh, Scotland turned it on during the final nine holes of the tournament, shooting five strokes under par to surpass the 51st ranked golfer in the nation for the title. Hill's third round score of 66 (-6) ties a career low.
“It was great to see Calum play fantastic and shoot 31 (-5) in the final nine holes to give him his first collegiate victory over a phenomenal player in Victor Lange from La Tech, arguably one of the best players in the country,” Williams added.
 “Performing like that under pressure was a huge boost for his confidence.”
It was a brilliant performance all around as the Warhawks placed three individuals in the top-five and five in the top-16 from a field that included 88 total golfers.
Micah Rodgers retained fourth place after shooting a career-low 212 (-4). Each round the JUCO transfer set a new career-low score capped off with a 68 (-4) in the final 18 holes of the tournament.
Senior Mason Seaborn carded a 214 (-2) to put him in the top-five for the sixth time in his career.
Junior Velten Meyer registered his best finish of the season with an even 216, good enough for 11th on the individual leaderboard.
Next Monday, the Warhawks will seek their second-straight title when the team tees it off at the First Tee Classic hosted by the Trojans in Little Rock, Arkansas.
“We’ll be trying to defend our title from last year,” Williams said. “We are excited to get over there and continue to show signs of improvement as the spring warms up.”
