Wintry weather forces abandonment of final round

STIRLING STUDENTS WIN

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S

TITLES AT LOSSIEMOUTH

Stirling students won both the men's and women's individual titles as wintry weather - a combination of unreletning wind, rain, hail and even snow - forced the abandonment of the fourth and final round of the 93rd Scottish universities golf championships  over the Moray Golf Club links at Lossiemouth today.

The leaders after 54 holes were proclaimed the winners.
Henry Tomlinson (Stirling), a member at Royal Lytham and St Annes, came from six shots back with a one-under-par 70 over the Old Course, a brilliant round in the testing conditions, to tie with another Stirling student, Mathias Eggenberger, the Swiss international from Bad Ragaz, winner of the title on his own in 2013. They are pictured together (Tomlinson on the left)  with their trophies at the top of the page. Pictures and tournament info by courtesy of organiser Rob Macpherson.
They both totalled two-under-par 209, Eggenberger, closing with a 75, the third-best score of the wild morning.
Third place on 212 was also shared, by another Stirling student from Switzerland, Marco Iten, and Northumberia University's Andrew Wilson.
St Andrews' student Tom Beasley from Hunstantion finished fourth on 216.
The leading Scot was Angus Carrick (Stirling), a Douglas Park GC member, with a total of 217.
The women's title was won by Stirling's Gemma Batty, who lives at Moffat and is a member at Powfoot.

Gemma, pictured with the women's trophy, finished with a 75 to a 78 by joint overnight leader and team-mate Hannah McCook from Nethy Bridge, a Grantown-on-Spey GC member.
Batty had a one-over-par aggregate of 221, three ahead of McCook.
Next up in the championships is the team-match-play with the quarter-finals taking place over the Moray New Course on Wednesday morning.
