OXFORD, Mississippi – The Kennesaw State University women's golf team wrapped up its final tune-up before the 2015 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship with a sixth place showing at the Rebel Intercollegiate on Sunday (April 5) at the par-72, 6,210-yard Ole Miss Golf Course.
The Owls turned in a final round five-over par 293 to finish the 18-team tournament with a 21-over par 54-hole total of 885, which equals their low 54-hole team score in relation to par.
"Overall I am satisfied with this result," said head coach Rhyll Brinsmead. "We saw under par rounds from three different players which is encouraging. Henriette Nielsen put together a very solid round today and Kaew and Ines both played much better. Dulcie (Sverdloff, a second-year student from Southend) had a great tournament with another top-15 finish. Dulcie is pictured above
"We have got a week to continue working on our weaknesses before conference. I am pleased with the progress we made with our putting, but it can always be better. The team knows what they need to do individually to be better and I am confident we can play even better next week. This was a good event for us."
Sophomore Dulcie Sverdloff earned her fifth top-20 finish and second-straight as she tied for 15th with a four-over par total of 220 after registering a birdie and 14 pars en route a three-over par 75 in her final round.
Freshman Henriette Nielsen led KSU with a team-low one-under par 71 after sinking four birdies in the final round to post her third top-20 finish of the season with a five-over par total of 221.
No. 15 Texas A&M bested No. 37 Kent State by three strokes to take home the team championship with a six-under par total of 858 and finished the three-day event with a seven-under par 281 in its final round.
The Golden Flashes (Kennesaw State) posted the low round of the day with an 11-under par 277 to finish the tournament with a three-under par score of 861. Kent State's Josee Doyon earned medalist honors after leading wire-to-wire and finished with an eight-under par 208 total after a final round four-under par 68 on Sunday.
The Owls will next be in action when they head to Kissimmee, Fla., for the 2015 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship, held at Reunion Resort on April 12-14.
