Northumbria student Wilson breaks
 record twice to go three shots clear

On another calm and sunny day, the cream of UK student golfers again pitted their wits against the firm but fair test of The Duke's Course, St Andrews. 
Having been tested to the extreme from the black tees on Tuesday there was relative relief at facing "only" the 7,000 yard challenge that is The Duke's Blue course for two rounds. 
Defending champion and joint overnight leader Cormac Sharvin (Stirling/Ardglass) followed his 74 on Tuesday with a double of 73 and 72 for 219 to maintain a high pace.
However, this was bettered by the other overnight leader, Chris MacLean (Stirling/Balmore) who shot 71 73 (218) and pre-tournament favourite Marco Iten (Stirling; Switzerland) with 73 and 71 (219). 
As the sun began to sink lower in the sky, all were blown away by the talented and regular cross-border raider, Andrew Wilson (Northumbria/Darlington) whose 71 and 68 not only gave him a three-shotlead on 215  but also captured the course record for The Duke's Blue course in both the morning and the afternoon!
A remarkable achievement by a very skilled golfer.
Another trip to the Black course for the final round on Thursday will test his lead and strength of character to the full.
 In the men' team event, Stirling lead lead Birmingham and Loughborough by some margin.
Gemma Batty goes six ahead
In the ladies' event, it was also a case of a course record falling on a day of low scores on The Duke's Green course. 
Gemma Batty (Stirling/Powfoot) blew her fellow competitors away with a stunning 71 to draw further ahead from the field in the morning and then followed it with a 75 for a six-shot lead going in to the final round.
 She is pursued by a duo of Exeter ladies - Alex Saunders (Exeter) and overnight leader, Katie Bradbury (Cottrell Park). 
In the ladies team event, however, Stirling still hold a slender lead over their Exeter competitors.
