English students Bolton and Hornsby

HORSESHOE BAY, Texas – The Newman University men's golf team finished third at the Heartland Conference Championships at Slick Rock Golf Course.
Third-year student James Bolton, pictured below, from Bury, England held the lead for most of the day, but came up one shot short to finish in second place.
The Jets (Newman) shot the best round of the tournament today with a team score of 285. In the first round, the Jets finished with a 293 and in the second round, they carded a 288. Their team score of 866 was six shots off first place Dallas Baptist, and only one shot back of St. Edward's.
Bolton finished with a three-round score of 8-under-par 208 to come up one shot short of individual winner Garrett Fey of DBU with his 9-under-par 207.
With the second place finish, Bolton was named to the Heartland Conference All-Tournament Team. In the final round, Bolton carded a 2-under-par 70. His first round tied for the championship best of 5-under-par 67. He followed that up with a 1-under-par 71 in his second round.
James Hornsby, a third-year Newman student from Liverpool , had an impressive day, going 5-under-par with a 67. He finished at 1-over-par 217 in his three rounds. His first two days were back-to-back 3-over-par scores of 75. With the strong round today, Hornsby moved up to 14th place.
Dallas Baptist University had a team score of 860 with St. Edward's in second at 865. The Jets finished in third at 866, and St. Mary's was fourth at 871. UA Fort Smith (890), Texas A&M International (930) and Oklahoma Panhandle State (1021) were fifth through seventh in the team standings.
