Hill gains second top-10 in a row

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas – The ULM men’s golf team jumped two spots in the final 18 holes on Tuesday to finish third at the 16-team First Tee Classic with a total score of 876 (+12) at Chenal Country Club, Little Rock.

Despite a rain infested morning that forced a delay in play, the Warhawks finished strongly to surpass McNeese State and UALR and remain ahead of Louisiana Tech, Stephen F. Austin, Southern Mississippi and nine other opponents.
“It was a long day with a two-hour rain delay but the guys preserved and played solid in pretty tough conditions,” head coach Walt Williams said.
A big reason for the jump was the play of junior (third year) Greg Smail and sophomore (second year) Calum Hill. Greg hails from Musselburgh and Calum from North Berwick.
Falling just one stroke shy of the individual title, Smail shot five-strokes under par for a season-best second place finish with scores of 72, 68 and 71 for an aggregate of five-under 211 over a par-72 course of 7,326yd.

“Very proud of Greg for his best finish of the spring and hanging in there and making a comeback after the rain delay,” Williams added.
After winning his first individual championship a week ago, Hill earned his second top-10 finish in a row by shooting 217 (+1) with rounds of 73, 73 and 71 for a T10 finish in a field of 90 players.
Matt Mabrey (Tulsa) was the individual winner with scores of 72, 70 and 68 for six-under 210. Tulsa (866) also won the team title ahead of Memphis (867) and Louisiana-Monroe (876) with Arkansas-Little Rock (877) fourth and McNeese State (885) fifth in field of 16 teams.
It was Louisiana-Monroe University's ULM second consecutive top-three finish.
