Wellington College win Independent Schools' title

Wellington
College, Berkshire took the Independent Schools Golf Association National Finals championship at Princes and Royal St George's Golf Club, Kent. It was the college's third victory
since the tournament started in
2007.
A total of 130 school teams took part in the knock-out stages with 19 schools
reaching the national finals.
After the first day's play at Princes,
Wellington (147) led the field ahead of Loretto (150), Whitgift (152), Birkdale (152), Reeds (153), Cheltenham (153), New Hall (155) and
Robert Gordon's (155), all within eight shots of the leaders
The
first day also had the teachers' competition where they competed for
gross and nett prizes. Iain Henderson won the teachers gross and
received his Alexander Quin sterling silver cufflinks.
All
to play for on the second day at an Open championship venue, Royal St George's.
First
low score came from Dylan Smith (73) which put Robert Gordon's College, Aberdeen in with a
chance of taking the title,. Now up to their other two players Michael
Lawrie and Lauren Watson. Early indications were that Wellington's
leading player Edoardo Lipparelli was slipping after a two-stroke penalty.
Next great
score in was George Mullins with a 69 which put defending champions
Whitgift in the frame. In the last few groups Wellington players Daniel
List and Ryan Lumsden came in with scores of 70 and 71.
Lipparelli later made up his two-shot loss and came in
with a great score of 67 with his playing partner Arrun Singh-Brar on
71. Edoardo's score cemented the Wellington team score (284) to take the title by 13
shots ahead of runners-up Birkdale (297) who were placed second ahead of Whitgift, who also totalled 297.

Wellington took the main trophy and 3 sterling silver insert buckles and belts by Alexander Quin
In
the individual tournament Edoardo Lipparelli (139) took the trophy and a
two-piece Galvin Green waterproof set, Arrun Singh-Brar (143) took
second
place and a waterproof top. Daniel List (145) finished third with George
Mullins (147) fourth.
Robert Gordon's Dylan Smith was the highest finishing Scot in sixth place on 148 (75-73).
Top-scoring Loretto student was Sebastien Saverino on 149 (74-75).
The
top finishing schools will now be invited to the new Alexander Quin
invitational 54 hole event to be held on September 22-24 at Essendon
Country Club where the top schools, colleges and universities will
