Welsh star has clubs stolen - may have to pull out 

of 'Helen Holm' unless she gets new ones in time

Top Welsh player Chloe Williams may have to withdraw from this week's beig tournament, the Helen Holm Scottish women's open amateur stroke-play championship, at Troon following the theft of her clubs and equipment - worth £2,500 - from her car, writes Colin Farquharson.

The 20-year-old GB and I international, pictured, from Wrexham had parked her Renault Clio outside the Beeches restaurant and Premier Inn hotel in Gresford between 9pm and 10pm when the thieves struck on Monday night.
North Wales Police confirmed they are investigating the break-in, and said a white Transit van was also raided with power tools being stolen.
Chloe won an individual bronze medal and team gold at the Australian Youth Olympics in 2013 and gained her first GB and I team place in the Astor Trophy tournament at Adelaide, Australia in Janaury.
She hoped her continued success would see her gain another GB and I cap in the Vagliano Trophy team to play the Continent of Europe at Malone Golf Club, Belfast in June after which she was aiming to turn professional by the end of the year.
But to achieve these aims Williams needs to be playing in top-level tournaments - which is a bit difficult if you don't have golf clubs.
Chloe said tonight:  “I’ve had to pull out of a tournament at Formby on Merseyside tomorrow because of this and I don’t know if I’ll be able to play in the Helen Holm tournament at Troon, which begins on Friday.“I’ve ordered a set of clubs from the Golf Union of Wales and I just hope they get to me before Wednesday, when I’m due to travel up to Ayrshire for a couple of practice rounds before the Helen Holm 54-hole tournament starts on Friday.
“These are vital to my career, my future job. The tournaments are all about getting recognition and finishing well before turning professional.
“I’m the number one in Wales at the moment but that’s no good if I’m not competing in tournaments. This is stopping me from playing.
“I can replace the clubs but this has put my career on hold – I think it’s so disrespectful and wrong.
“I’d stopped to have some food with my boyfriend after doing nine holes at Wrexham Golf Club. I was only in there for a matter of 45 minutes. I don’t know if someone saw me in my golf gear or if I’ve been followed.”
