Briggs sisters missing from Monifieth action    

as they recover from injuries

Kilmacolm's Eilidh Briggs and her older sister Megan have played such a prominent part in recent Scottish women's amateur championships that they will be sadly missed at this week's tournament at Monifieth Links, writes Colin Farquharson.
Megan, a Glasgow solicitor, won the title in 2009. They both reached the semi-finals of the 100th championship at Prestwick last May but Megan lost by 3 and 2 to the eventual title winner, Gabrielle MacDonald, while Eilidh went down 2 and 1 to Connie Jaffrey.
Both have played for Scotland - in the same team - and Eilidh, a qualified gym teacher, was a member of the GB and I Curtis Cup team in the States last year.
But it has all gone wrong for the Briggs girls this year as Eilidh relates:
 "Megan, tore her anterior cruciate ligament and had an operation in January. The operation was a success and she is continuing with rehab.

"Myself, I haven't played since having to withdraw in Japan due to an injury to my left scapula and shoulder. I have been continuing with rehab with the Scottish Institute of Sport and recently had an injection into the inflamed left scapula." 

Scapula is the proper name for your shoulder blades. 

The injury will cost Eilidh her place in the GB and I team to play the Continent of Europe in next month's Vagliano Trophy match at Malone Golf Club, Belfast.
