David Wicks from East Sussex to transfer from 

Midland to Jacksonville in August

Long time Midland College golf coach Delnor Poss does not hesitate when he says that David Wicks from Bexhill, East Sussex has been one of his all time favourites to coach.

Wicks, pictured, has not only had an ultra-successful career in his two years at Midland College but he has excelled academically and has been an excellent leader for the Chaparrals.
“If you had five guys like David Wicks you wouldn’t have any worries about anything and you would be highly successful,” Poss said. “David has been a joy to have. I’ve never enjoyed a player any more.”
This week Wicks signed a letter-of-intent to attend Jacksonville University, an NCAA Division I program in Jacksonville, Florida, next college golf season which starts in August. Wicks, an NJCAA and Ping Golf All-American as a freshman, had a number of programs that were courting him, but he narrowed his choices down to Jacksonville, South Carolina and South Florida because he had a preference to play in the southeastern United States.
“I really wanted to go somewhere out in Florida or the east coast,” said Wicks, who was recently named to the Western Junior College Athletic Conference first team. 
"I want my parents to come out and watch me graduate and play in my last tournament. It’s a lot easier for them to get from England to the east coast. The program is awesome, and Jacksonville University have got really nice facilities for practise amd one of the best courses in the world (Dye’s Valley at TPC Sawgrass). 
"It’s a really nice program. The weather is going to help out too, and the schedule they play is very strong.”
Wicks said he visited Jacksonville in February and said in addition to the facilities and the weather, he liked the fact that the university had a similar environment to that of Midland College.
“I don’t want to change too much considering I’ve been successful where I am now,” he said. “I also wanted to go to a place where I could concentrate on my academics. Unlike bigger schools, there’s more people to help and you get personal time with the tutors.”
Wicks is enjoying a very good sophomore year as he is second in the NJCAA with a 70.47 scoring average and has either won or placed in the top five individually in just about every tournament he’s played in this year.
“I feel David has the potential to play on a high professional level,” Poss said.
Wicks, whose team are playing in the NJCAA National Tournament this week at Newton, Kansas, said he’s happy to get this decision out of the way so he can concentrate on finishing up school and helping the Chaps go after their fifth national title. He added that coming to Midland College was a big plus in his development as a golfer.
“I’ve learned a lot, especially from coach, from players who were above me my freshman year who knew what to do and what not to do,” said Wicks, who was the runner-up medalist at last year’s national tournament. 
“Everything I ever wanted and more has been given to me, so I couldn’t thank the school enough. I think it’s the best decision of my life going to junior college, so I can understand how everything works and how grades work because it’s a lot different than home. It was the best decision I’ve ever made.”
