Irishman Paul Dunne wins through to NCAA
Championship with Alabama-Birmingham
Paul Dunne, in his last few weeks of four years at the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB), will figure in the NCAA
Championship tournament as his farewell from US college golf, writes Colin Farquharson
The fourth-year student from Greystones, Ireland, pictured left, shot 67-71-72 for six-under-par 210 and a T7 finish in a field of 75 players at the NCAA Bremerton Regional - seven shots behind the winner by four, Cheng-Tsung Pan (Washington) (67-69-67) - but Alabama-Birmingham headed the five teams who qualified for the end of the season finale.
The others were South Carolina, Southern California, Texas Christian and Washington from a field of 14 teams.
Wicks signs off from Midland with a T4 finish
David Wicks, pictured right, from East Sussex, finished off his two years at Midland College, by finishing T4 in a field of 97 players at the NJCAA men's national championship Division 1 at Sand Creek Station with rounds of 73, 71, 69 and 73 for two-under-par 286 over a 7358 course (par 72)
The winner by two shots on 281 was Vetle Maroy (Odessa College) with rounds of 71, 71, 66 and 73.
Wicks did not get much support from his team-mate as Midland finished 16th of 19 in the team title race won by Indian Hills ahead of McLennan. Some recruiting need there!
Wicks will step up to Jacksonville University in August.
