Joanna Klatten leads at Kingsmill Championship

Joanna Klatten piled up seven birdies to take a one-shot lead after the first round of the LPGA Kingsmill Championship in Virginia.

Paris-born Klatten, who has missed five cuts and hasn't finished better than a tie for 30th this season, made four birdies in a row on her front-nine and finished the day with a round of 65, one stroke ahead of Pat Hurst, Alison Lee and Morgan Pressel.
France's Perrine Delacour, a former British girls' open champion,  was among a quartet of players sharing fifth place on four-under 67, where she was joined by Americans Paula Creamer and Jacqui Concolino and South Korean So-Yeon Ryu.
Klatten's round outshone a star-studded field including world No 1 Lydia Ko (71), Inbee Park (72) and British talent Charley Hull, who matched Ko's level par round.
"Well, it's nice because I haven't had a very good stretch lately," said Klatten, who has been a professional since 2011 and qualified for the LPGA Tour at the end of 2013.
"I mean, this is one of my favourite courses all year. I feel very comfortable here. It suits my eye really well. I think you have an advantage if you're among the long hitters."
Defending champion Lizette Salas struggled to a three-over 74 that left her tied for 93rd and US Women's Open champion Michelle Wie withdrew with a hip injury after shooting an opening 78.
