Kirsty Brodie beaten after toppling title-holder


Kirsty Brodie, playing over her home course, beat defending champion Jillian Milne (Blairgowrie) 5 and 4 in the morning's first round of the Perthshire and Kinross women's county championship at Strathmore Golf Centre, Alyth.
But Brodie tasted defeat in the afternoon quarter-finals. She was beaten 4 and 2 by top seed Laura Walker (Muckhart), the county champion in 2008 and 2010.
Walker's semi-final opponent is American college student Nicola Robertson (Stirling) who beat Gwen Lambie (Dunkeld and Birnam) 3 and 2 in the quarter-finals.
No 2 seed Jen Saxton (Muckhart) cruised through to the last four and will now play Laura Campbell (Pitlochry) tomorrow for a place in the afternoon final.
