Liz Dunn Butler, playing in the final for the first time, beat title-holder Mary Lou Wakins by one hole in an all-Gullane Ladies final of the East Lothian county championship at rain and windswept Longniddry Golf Club.
Dunn Butler, who had beaten the top seed Sue Penman 7 and 6 in the morning semi-finals, began with a birdie but was one down at the turn before coming home in one-under-par, great scoring in the testing conditions, to win by one hole.
Dunn Butler won the 11th with a birdie, lost the 12th but then won 13th, the 14th with a chip-in eagle and the 15th to be two up with three to play.
Watkins kept her hopes alive by winning the 17th but the last hole was halved.

Liz's sub-par inward half won her the title
BARBARA BIGGART REPORTS
The weather today was not kind for the championships with driving rain and strong winds. The greenkeepers of Longniddry squeegeed the greens in the morning and changed the pin positions so the competition could be concluded and East Lothian  LCGA appreciate Longniddry Golf Club hosting their championship and also for all the hard work to keep the course open.
The ladies played great golf and the supporters in the afternoon were treated to some wonderful shots.

In the morning Liz Dunn Butler and Mary Lou Watkins played steady golf to win through to the afternoon.
In the final,  Liz opened with a birdie but Mary Lou came back, winning with a par at the first short hole followed by a birdie at the sixth to go one up.
Mary Lou then won the seventh to go two up but lost the ninth to turn with a one-hole lead.
Liz fought back with a birdie at the 11th to level the match only to let Mary Lou win the 12th to be back to one down.
Liz then won the short 13th with an amazing bunker shot to square the contest.
Liz chipped in for an eagle at the 14th to go one up and won the 15th with a oar to go two up. They both parred the short 16th but Mary Lou had a winning par at the long 17th against the wind.
Liz triumphed at the 18th with a par, coming back in 1 under par in very testing conditions.
It was a well-contested final played in great spirits considering the weather.
Congratulations to Liz, our new EL LCGA champion.
