Dunn Butler, who had beaten the top seed Sue Penman 7 and 6 in the morning semi-finals, began with a birdie but was one down at the turn before coming home in one-under-par, great scoring in the testing conditions, to win by one hole.
Dunn Butler won the 11th with a birdie, lost the 12th but then won 13th, the 14th with a chip-in eagle and the 15th to be two up with three to play.
Watkins kept her hopes alive by winning the 17th but the last hole was halved.
Liz's sub-par inward half won her the title
BARBARA BIGGART REPORTS
The weather today was not kind for the championships with driving rain and strong winds. The greenkeepers of Longniddry squeegeed the greens in the morning and changed the pin positions so the competition could be concluded and East Lothian LCGA appreciate Longniddry Golf Club hosting their championship and also for all the hard work to keep the course open.
