East beat West 6-3 in vets' match for Elise Duncan Trophy at Mortonhall
Report from Anne Brownie
Captain of East Division, SVLGA
The annual scratch match between the East and West Divisions of the SVLGA (Scottish Veteran Ladies’ Golf Association) took place today at Mortonhall Golf Club, Edinburgh.
The result was a 6 to 3 win for the East whose team members are seen pictured with the Elise Duncan Trophy
On a “blustery” (i.e. strong to gale-force winds) day, the sun at least shone at Mortonhall and some sparkling golf was on show despite the unseasonable weather.
Players on both sides complimented the condition of the course; iron shots were played in close and putts (long and short) were holed on both sides.
There were four halved matches, one win for the West and four wins for the East. In fact, after the first six matches, it was evenly poised at three points apiece but the East won the last three games to close out the 6-3 win.
A very competitive and enjoyable day’s golf was rounded off with a lovely meal in the Mortonhall clubhouse where Marion Stewart, West Vets Captain, presented Anne Brownie, on right with the Elise Duncan Trophy.
