Laura Murray leads with par 72 at Deer Park
Laura Murray (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) is halfway towards adding to her number of victories on the Ladies Tartan Tour, writes Colin Farquharson .
The player from Alford leads after a first-round par 72 at Deer Park Golf and Country Club, Livingston. Laura, pictured, has a one-shot lead over Jane Turner (West Linton) and a two-stroke advantage over Stacey Keating (Australia) and Kylie Walker (Mar Hall).
Murray, who gained her Ladies European Tour players' card at the last Qualifying School, has always been one of the longer hitters in female golf but in the last year two she has added a consistency to her scoring.
She birdied the sixth, long eighth, short 10th, long 12th and 18th in halves of 36, good figures in very windy conditions after heavy overnight rain. A double-bogey 6 at the 13th did not faze her. Laura also had bogeys at the first, ninth and 11th
Turner, who lost to Murray by two holes in the 2012 Scottish women's amateur championship final at Tain, also had five birdies - at the sixth, eighth, 11th, 15th and 17th - but the West Linton player had bogeys, six in all, at regular intervals in halves of 38 and 35.
Kylie Walker, out in 36, was on course for the lead until she bogeyed the 13th, 15th and 17th in an inward 38.
