Maguire and Mehaffey to lead Irish Challenge

Having just been named on the GB amd I Vagliano team to face the Continent of Europe at Malone Golf Club, Belfast later this month, Olivia Mehaffey (Royal County Down Ladies) and Leona Maguire (Slieve Russell) will lead the Irish challenge at the 2015 Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship at Portstewart Golf Club, Northern Ireland next week (June 9-13).
World number one ranked amateur golfer Leona, will be looking for a win in Europe after her exceptional freshman year at Duke University, North Carolina.
Olivia will also be vying for a strong finish next week to add to her list of 2015 Irish Girls, Welsh Ladies and Scottish Ladies titles. Joining Maguire and Mehaffey will be some of Ireland’s elite players, including Jessica Carty (Holywood), Maria Dunne (Skerries), Paula Grant (Lisburn), Lisa Maguire (Slieve Russell), Julie McCarthy (Forrest Little), Jean O’Driscoll (Muskerry), Niamh McSherry (Lurgan) Chloe Ryan (Castletroy) and Sinead Sexton (Lahinch).
The Championship will be played over 6,262 yards of the Strand lay-out which lies on an estuary between the Atlantic Ocean and the River Bann.
Two stroke-play qualifying rounds will produce 64 competitors for the sudden-death match-play stages. The 18-hole final will be played on Saturday, June 13.
Each country will also be battling to bring home the Nations Cup Trophy which will be awarded to the country with the lowest aggregate gross score from the 36 hole qualifying rounds.
