Portstewart's magnificent clubhouse hosts Ladies British Open Amateur

To be precise, the new clubhouse was built in 2009 at a cost of approximately £3.5million - and it was money well spent as far as the 1,447 members and many visitors from all over the world will testify. x
Portstewart Golf Club has two 18-hole courses at its home base and another 18 - made up of par-4s and par-3s on the other side of town.
This week the clubhouse is "home" for 144 girls from all over Europe and farther afield in the 11th Ladies British Open Amateur championship.
The first of two stroke-play qualifying rounds will be held on Tuesday. After Wednesday's round, the leading 64 players will advance to the match-play stages.
The favourite? Has to be the World's No 1 female amateur, Leona Maguire, 20, from the Slieve Russell Club at Ballyconnell, not all that far south of the Irish border.
But the Maguires are not making the 2 1/2 hr trip there and back everyday. Leona and twin sister Lisa are staying locally.
