Carly and Vikki make major advance to Turnberry from a rainy day at Irvine

Comrie's Carly Booth and Vikki Laing from Musseburgh were among the 12 players who advanced from a miserably
wet day at Irvine Golf Club to claim places in the star-studded field for the Ricoh Women's British Open, starting at
Turnberry on Thursday, writes Colin Farquharson.
Carly shot a one-under-par 73 while Vikki survived a six-strong play-off for the last four qualifying places with a par
4 at the first extra hole.
Carly had a brilliant inward half of 35 in which an eagle 3 at the 11th and birdies at the 15th, 16th and 17th offset bogeys at the 10th and 13th.
But for fellow Scots Laura Murray (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre), Kelsey Macdonald from Nairn and Heather MacRae (Gleneagles) it was the end of the major trail for this year.
Laura had a 77, Kelsey a 78 and Heather an 80.
