POW PACKS A PUNCH WITH A ONE- UNDER SCORE at POWFOOT

 Selkirk’s Martine Pow, who won the 2006 Scottish Ladies Amateur  Championship at Dunbar, marked her debut in the Scottish Senior Ladies’ Amateur Strokeplay Championship with an impressive one under par 72 at Powfoot.  

The new recruit to Seniors golf had a hat-trick of birdies in the opening half  - at the second, fourth and eighth – and dropped shots at the fifth and 15th.

The many time Borders Champion, pictured above, was the only player to finish under par and she led by three shots from Aberdeen Ladies’ Sheena Wood, who made it to the last 16 of the Scottish Championship at Monifieth in May. She continued to impress with a 75 for outright second place. 

Seven players are on 77, including Powfoot’s Clare Kieran, who looked set to take second place until she finished 6 5 against the par of 4 4. 

Alison Bartlett (Royal Dornoch), facing the pressure of defending both the stroke and matchplay titles, opened with a 78 and was tied for tenth place.

The Strokeplay Championship is  based on 36-holes and then the top 16 qualify for the Matchplay Championship on Thursday and Friday.
