Laura Murray pipped in Swedish play-off
Alford's Laura Murray shot an eight-birdie final round of 65 to get into a three-way play-off on eight-under 208 for first pirze of 5,650 euros in the Silvesborg Ladies Open hosted by Fanny Sunesson at Silvesborg Golf Club, Sweden.
France's Arlene Provot, who had also closed with a seven-under 65, including an eagle 3 at the 17th, won the sudden-death play-off at the first extra hole for her first win on the LETAS Tour.
The third player in the play-off was Sweden's Lynn Carlsson who holed a chip for par at the last to figure in the triple tie.
Murray (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) had earlier rounds of 73 and 70.
In the play-off, both Murray and Provot then found the middle of the 18th fairway and Carlsson drove into the right rough. Again, both players hit the green, Provot to 12 feet and Murray leaving herself a 15ft birdie putt. Playing from the rough, Carlsson was unable to control the spin and found herself in a similar position as she had on her 54th hole, just off the back edge of the green. This time the Swede was unable to hole out, settling for her par four.
Murray’s birdie attempt came up just a roll short of dropping into the hole, which left the stage clear for Provot to hole her birdie putt for the title. The Frenchwoman let out a loud scream as the ball dropped into the hole.
Laura and Carlsson earned 3,233 euros each
England's Charlotte Thompson, who was earlier the tournament leader, shot a final round of 72 to finish in fourth place at 6 under par, 210, two behind the play-off participants.
Germany’s Olivia Cowan, daughter of an Germany-based club pro from Liverpool, who leads the ranking missed the Sölvesborg event but will be back in action next week when the LET Access Series travels to Finland for the HLR Golf Academy Open at Hillside Golf Club in Vihtii.
Aberdeen-born Gemma Dryburgh (Beaconsfield) and Ellon's Michele Thomson (Meldrum House) tied for 11th place on 215, Dryburgh with scores of 73, 71 and 71, Thomson with 70, 72 and 73. They earned 725 euros each.
Jane Turner (Craigielaw) tied for 22nd place on 219 with scores of 76, 70 and 73. Jane earned 560 euros
