St Andrews and Tom Beasley among the honours in Alexander Quin Invitational

The
Inaugural Alexander Quin Invitational took place this week at Essendon
Country Club. The top University, College and School Golf teams were
invited to take part. The three-round scratch event was to showcase the
wealth of golfing talent at UK educational establishments.
Nine teams of four players took part in the inaugural event three different
layouts at Essendon Country Club. St Andrews University took the early
lead over Bournemouth University after the first round with Birkdale
School and Wellington College not far behind. Hartpury College and
Exeter University were only 10 shots off the lead after the second
round
Tom
Beasley (St Andrews) took the early individual lead with an opening
round of 3 under par 69. In the second round Daniel List (Wellington)
made the lowest score of 1 under par 71.
The
tournament proved a great opportunity for students from schools ,
colleges and Universities to share their experiences. The low round of
the tournament came from Arun Singh-Brar (Hampshire Collegiate) with an 8
under par round of 64 - 1 shot off the professional course record.
The
finishing holes saw Birkdale's players come in with scores of 67,72 and
76 to take second spot in the team event.
Tom
Beasley had to shoot 5 under par to keep his lead over the low round
score from Arun which he did in style with a three-round score of 6 under
par 210. He took the Individual trophy along with a special edition
Alexander Quin sterling silver cufflinks. Arun Sigh- Brar took second
place receiving his trophy and an Alexander Quin sterling silver ball
marker.
In
the team event Birkdale players Tom Bradley, Barclay Brown,Josh Wright
and Elliott Brown took the runners up trophy and a GALVIN GREEN shirt
each.
The
team trophy went to St Andrews University with a great score of 2 over
par for the team over 3 rounds (650) They picked up the trophy and a
silver belt buckle from Alexander Quin.
After
a very successful event the ISGA are looking to hold the next Alexander
Quin Invitational in October 2016 with invites going out to European
Universities as well as UK Universities, Colleges and Schools. Interest
has already been shown from some US colleges in taking part in future
events.
