Five Scots in same North Carolina tournament
George Duncan scores first college win in USA
George Duncan from Dunbartonshire, a third-year student at Lincoln Memorial University, Harrogate in Tennessee, on Tuesday scored his first win on the US college golf circuit.
George, pictured, winner of the Windyhill GC junior championship three times in a row, had scores of 70 and 72 for two-under-par 142 in the Etowah Intercollegiate tournament over a 6,892yd, par-72 course at Etowah Country Club, North Carolina.
The Scot won by one shot from Callum Watson (Erskine), a freshman from Southampton, who had rounds of 71 and 72.
Lincoln Memorial (591), tied with Brevard College for second place behind winners Newberry (586) in the team event.
One of Duncan's team-mates, 6ft 3in freshman Sam Broadhurst from Nuneaton, finished T14 on 150 (72-78)
Other Scots in the field of 47 players were Brevard College's Craig Stephen from Torphins, Declan Addison from Peterhead, Calum McAndrew from Fife and Erskine College's Ross McEwan..
Stephen, a second-year student, finished joint eighth with rounds of 75 and 72.
McAndrew, also a sophmore, finished T30 on 156 with a pair of 78s.
Addison, a sophomore from Peterhead, retired after a first-round 80.
McEwan, a third-year student from Fife, finished T33 with scores of 76 and 81 for 157.
