Irish appoint Johnny Foster short-game coach
The
Irish Ladies Golf Union (ILGU) has appointed Johnny Foster to the
position of ILGU High Performance (HP) Short Game Coach.
In his new
position Johnny will
undertake the delivery of a co-ordinated programme of high-quality,
short-game coaching sessions, reflecting the individual needs of the
ILGU HP squad members.
Johnny
has a wealth of experience in both the playing and coaching arenas. He
represented Ulster at provincial level and Ireland at National level and
subsequently
went on and founded his own golf academy in 2012, based at Greenacres
Golf Centre. Commenting on joining the team Johnny said ‘I am excited to join the ILGU HP coaching team and the organisation as a whole as I can see it how dynamic and progressive it
is. The role is a natural fit for me’. Asking him about his experience of coaching European Tour players he said
‘It will obviously come in handy
but everyone is different. I am really looking forward to getting to
know the players and seeing how we can all learn from eachother’.
The
high performance coaching structure is now complete with Johnny having
joined the team and will be overseen by High Performance Manager, David
Kearney. Commenting
on the new appointment David said ‘The
ILGU HP squad needs a world class short game coach to compliment the
successful work of the coaching team. Johnny has the ability to do that
while working with the squad on all facets of the short game. He has a
very
successful proven track record with HP players, which will prove
invaluable for us’.
ILGU High Performance Director Tricia McDonnell is delighted to have Johnny on side
‘He is a great asset and is very driven and hungry for success’.
Noting his ability as a coach Tricia also added
‘He is certain to improve the ability of the HP squad. The goal is to
get more Irish players in the WAGR top 100 and work towards having
players’ games in the best shape for the 2018 World Amateur Team
Championships’.
