Duke claims Landfall Tradition title, leading from wire-to-wire, Leona Maguire T4 finish

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The fifth-ranked Duke University women’s golf team capped an impressive 54 holes of action Sunday with its third straight under-par round on its way to claiming the 2015 Landfall Tradition team title with a nine-under-par, 855, at the 6,157-yard, par 72 Pete Dye Course located at the Country Club of Landfall.
The Blue Devils won by 11 strokes after carding rounds of 287, 284 and 284, while Notre Dame (866), Oklahoma State (867), Michigan State (872), Alabama (882), NC State (885), Wake Forest (886), Purdue (887), South Carolina (888) and UNC Wilmington (889) rounded out the top 10 teams.
With the team title, Duke picked up its second straight win on the season as the Blue Devils registered a victory at the Tar Heel Invitational earlier this month.  It is also head coach Dan Brooks’ 124th career win, which continues to lead all Division I head coaches.
“It was great to get the win, on a challenging course,” commented Brooks.  “Tee to green we were very strong.  And obviously we putted well enough to win.  As a team, putting is where our practice time will be best spent, going into our next event.”
After an opening round of 75 Friday, Duke senior Celine Boutier came back strong registering back-to-back scores of 69 on her way to moving into tied fourth overall with a three-under-par, 213.  A native of Montrouge, Paris, France, Boutier (the British women's open amateur champion, carded a team-high five birdies Sunday and collected a total of eight birdies over her final two days of play.
In her final round, she notched back-to-back birdies on No. 5 and No. 6 for the second straight day, but had a bogey on No. 7.  She came back with three consecutive birdies on the 12th, 13th and 14th holes to get to four-under.  A bogey on No. 16 dropped her back to three-under-par, where she finished the day
Continuing her strong play, sophomore Leona Maguire turned in a bogey-free, two-under-par, 70, on her way to finishing tied fourth with a three-under, 213.  Maguire, who hails from Cavan, Ireland, has now posted nine straight rounds of even or under par to open the season.  In Sunday’s round, she hit all 18 greens as she rolled in birdies on No. 8 and No. 16.
Making her season debut as an individual this weekend, sophomore Lisa Maguire closed strongly with a season-best round of 74 as she went on to finish tied 74th.  Maguire, twin sister of Leona, registered two birdies on the day.

Another player from Ireland, Ariana Coyle Diaz (Penn State), Scotland's Rachael Taylor (North Carolina State), pictured right, and GB and I international Alice Hewson (Clemson), from Berkhamsted, all tied for 24th place on 220.
Diaz had rounds of 74, 76, and 70; Taylor 73, 79 and 68 (one of the best of the final day), and Hewson came back to form with a 72.
Elizabeth Mallett (North Carolina) from Sutton Coldfield finished T47 after saving her best,  a one-under-par 71, to last for 226.
Heather Munro (Elon University) from Monifieth)  shot a last-day 78 for T63 on 230.
India Clyburn (North Carolina State) from Cleethorpes hit form in the last round with a 72 to finish T65 on 231
Alison Knowles (Michigan State) from Mexborough, Yorkshire, had an 80 in the last round for 7th place on 233.
Mary Doyle (Elon), the 2014 Irish women's amateur champion, could not manage to break 80 in any of her three rounds but a final round of 81 was her best effort for 93rd place on 249 in a field of 96.
