Essex girl Georgina keeps up the good work in
Pat Bradley Invitational
LAKEWOOD RANCH, Florida - Essex girl Georgina Blackman, a second-year student at Western Kentucky University, continued her strong performance at the 38th Annual Pat Bradley Invitational, firing her lowest round of the fall with a second-round 70 to tie for second place, heading into the final round of the tournament.
The Lady Toppers followed suit as a team, tallying their second-lowest autumn round with a 296, moving up one spot on the team leaderboard to seventh with a two-round score of 26-over 602 (306-296).
WKU’s 296 was the fourth-best second round among the 14 competing teams on the Lakewood Ranch Country Club. Toledo owns a one-stroke lead at 12-over 588 over Memphis through the first two rounds.
"It was great to carry over the momentum that we gained on Sunday into today with our strong round," head coach Adam Gary said. "With seven teams shooting under 300 today, we knew that we had to have a low round to stay in the competition and we did just that.”
Blackman, pictured, a sophomore from Essex, England, finished with just one bogey on Monday and birdied her final two holes to move into a tie for second with Daytona State’s Ji Sun Kang and Sathika Ruenreong of Toledo at even par through two rounds (74-70). The trio trails individual leader Leighann Cabush of Memphis by two strokes moving into Tuesday’s final round.
Ellinor Haag’s second-round 73 was her fourth-best round of the fall and helped her jump 11 spots on the individual leaderboard on Monday. The senior is seeking her fourth top-10 finish in five events this fall and will be paired with FGCU’s Mei Khuan Yong and Bradley’s Ally Scaccia for the final round.
Emily Alexander notched her second-best round this fall with a 74 on Monday, moving up 17 spots into a tie for 35th. The Glasgow, Kentucky native owns a pair of top-20 finishes this fall, including a seventh-place finish at the Bluegrass Kickoff as an individual on Aug. 31.
Tuesday’s final round will begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. CT.
The Cypress Links Course at Lakewood Ranch Country Club, opened in 2001, is an 18-hole, Arnold Palmer-designed course featuring wide golf corridors and delivering a more forgiving and rewarding experience for golfers of all skill levels.
