Scottish amateur champion Bob MacIntyre from Oban, a second-year student at McNeese State University, Lake Charles, Louisiana, shot a 1-over 73 in the final round of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic but his three straight pars to end the round helped the left-hander, pictured, to tie for first on the individual leaderboard with Houston's Matt Dunn
MacIntyre, who won the individual title at the USM Sam Hall Intercollegiate a month ago, lost on the second hole of the play-off to Dunn as the Cowboys slipped on the team leaderboard to an eighth place finish after shooting 16-over on the day with a final round score of 304.
"We struggled again today off the tee," said head coach Austin Burk. "You can't do that on this course and make pars all day.
"Bob had another nice event. He knows what it takes to win and comes to each event with that expectation."
MacIntyre started the round 6-under and with a two-stroke lead and went to 7-under right away after a birdie on the first hole. He hit some trouble from holes 4 through 9 with four bogeys but he regrouped and made a birdie on No. 13 then sank an eagle putt on the par 5 No. 14 to get back to even on the day.
The Scot dropped a stroke with a bogey on 15, then drained par putts over the final three holes.
Martin Eriksson recorded the lowest score of the day for the Cowboys with an even-par 72 and finished 7-over for the tournament and in a tie for 26th place.
Houston won the team title with a three-round score of 870 to finish 6-over for the tournament but it was the team's 11-under on the final round that slid it past North Texas (872) for the title.
