Duke’s Leona Maguire Selected ACC Golfer of
the Month
DURHAM, North Carolina – Duke University sophomore Leona Maguire
was selected ACC Golfer of the Month for October, after helping lead
the Blue Devils to two team victories at the Tar Heel Invitational and
the Landfall Tradition.
Maguire,
who hails from Cavan, Ireland, collected a first place and tied for
fourth place finish in both tournaments, while totaling a 70.83 stroke
average. She did not shoot over par in the two tournaments, including
four under-par rounds.
In
the Tar Heel Invitational, Maguire totaled rounds of 69, 72 and 71 for a
four-under-par, 212. She registered birdies on holes No. 16 and No. 17
in the final round to win the individual title by one stroke. At The
Landfall Tradition,
Maguire collected rounds of 71, 72 and 70 for a three-under-par, 213.
In nine rounds so far on the season, Maguire has posted nine even or
under par rounds.
Maguire
is currently ranked as the No. 1 female amateur golfer in the world,
