ORLANDO, Fla. – No. 23 Missouri University (Mizzou) women's golf team shot a 5-under par 283 on Monday to take the lead in the University of Central Florida Challenge at the Eagle Creek Golf Club.
Three Tigers carded subpar rounds, led by a career-low 69 (-3) from freshman Amanda Kim (O'Fallon, Missouri), who went without a bogey the entire round. The 283 ties the sixth-lowest team round in program history.
Mizzou enters the final round ahead by three strokes while senior Michelle Butler (Dunedin, Florida.) remains tied for the individual lead after shooting 70 (-2) in the second round.
"Today was a lot of fun," Missouri head coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said. "We got back to making birdies and took advantage of some well-placed shots."
Kim birdied the final two holes of the front nine and closed the round with her third birdie on No. 18. Butler opened the round with three consecutive birdies and closed with an eagle on the 18th by holing out on a 110-yard shot into the wind.
Freshman Emma Allen (Southampton, England) shot a 71 (-1) with four birdies on the day, including three in the first six holes.
Sophomore Clara Young , the Scottish champion from North Berwick (pictured holding the trophy at Monifieth last May, shot 73 (+1) while junior Jessica Meek from Carnoustie had an off day with a seven-over 79 (+7).
The Tigers are three strokes ahead of second-place Tulane (+11) and four shots in front of Iowa State (+12) in third place.
