29 – 31
March 2016
The
girls' team to represent Ireland at U16 and U14 level for the friendly match
against Wales has been selected. Three U14 and three U16 Horizon Panel
members will travel to Cardigan Golf Club,
Wales on Tuesday, 29 March to compete in foursomes and singles matches.
At
U16 level Sara Byrne (Douglas), Anna Dawson (Tramore) and Lauren Walsh
(Castlewarden) will be taking to the course, while Beth Coulter
(Kirkistown Castle), Anna Foster (Elm Park) and
Aine Donegan (Woodstock) will represent Ireland at U14 level.
The
Horizon Programme is a new departure for the ILGU with 2016 being a
pilot year. It has been designed based on the needs of young players
across the country with the clear aim being
to introduce players to all aspects of what is involved in a High
Performance Programme.
The Horizon Programme serves as an entry level
performance programme and a stepping stone towards high performance.
The
2016 programme provides the opportunity for over
30 players to engage with the ILGU High Performance Coaching staff,
leading to approximately 12 players remaining involved for the 2017
Horizon Performance Programme.
ILGU Coaching Systems
Manager Gillian O’Leary, ILGU High Performance Coach Dr Lee-Ann Sharp
and ILGU U16’s Coach Michelle Carroll, will be travelling with the team.
