Laura Murray ties for fourth place in LETAS event
Gonzalez Garcia wins Swiss Ladies Open
NEWS RELEASE
Gams, Switzerland: Carolina Gonzalez Garcia won by one shot from Austria’s
Christine Wolf and Tonje Daffinrud from Norway, in a nail-biting
finish at the ASGI Swiss Ladies Open in Switzerland this evening.
The
Spanish player started the final day with a three shot lead over Csilla
Lajtai-Rozca from Hungary and Austrian amateur Emma Spitz, but having
not been in a leading
position in a professional event before, Gonzalez Garcia knew it was
going to be tough to cross the finishing line.
The
25-year-old had maintained her three-shot lead standing on the tee on
the final hole but a nervy double bogey meant her final round of 74, two
over par, was only
just good enough for her first victory on the LET Access Series.
“I
was very nervous all the way round but I kept it under control. I
didn’t know where I was standing because there was no leader board. I
was concentrating on my game.”
“I
am super happy, I’m amazed I won my first professional tournament. My
next event is in Lugo. In golf, every day is different but I have more
security in my game
now.”
Wolf
finished strongly with a final round of 68, four under par, for a 7
under par total, alongside Daffinrud, who closed with a 3 under, 69.
Both players will now
head to Morocco for the LET’s Lalla Meryem Cup, which takes place from
the 5 – 8 May at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Rabat.
Sweden’s Lynn Carlsson (68), Kippie Lodge's Laura Murray (70) and Austrian amateur Emma Spitz (73) finished in a tie for fourth place at 6 under par, 210. Murray earned 1,109 euros for rounds of 69, 71 and 70.
Gonzalez
Garcia’s win takes her into second place on the LETAS Order of Merit,
behind fellow countrywoman Luna Sobron, who won the opening event of the
season, the
Terre Blanche Ladies Open.
Michele Thomson (Meldrum House) finished T24 on 216 with scores of 69, 74 an d73. She earned 435 euros.
Jane Turner missed the cut by one shot with scores of 76-71 for 147.
