Leona Maguire continued to struggle on the opening
nine holes as she made the turn Sunday at three-over 38. She notched a
bogey on the opening hole and double-bogey on No. 5, before closing the
nine with four consecutive pars.
Maguire, the 2015 ACC Individual
Champion, registered her first birdie of the day on the par five 10th
and got back to even par as she chipped in for eagle on the 445-yard,
par five 15th.
It was the only eagle on No. 15 on the day. She got into
trouble in the greenside bunker on No. 18 and went on to close with a
double-bogey. For the day, Maguire finished with a two-over 74.
“Her game was off,” commented coach Brooks on Maguire. “She wasn’t at her best."
After playing solid over the first two days with rounds of 76 and 74, Leona Maguire's twin sister, sophomore Lisa, had a rough day, turning in a 12-over, 84. Lisa tied 48th with 234. She closed strongly with birdies on 14 and 16 to play her final five holes at one-under-par. Maguire’s 10 birdies over the three days of play ranked tied sixth for the weekend.
