Mika Miyazato leads Kingsmill Championship
by one after first round
Miyazato caught fire on her first nine. She birdied five of six on her front nine and made the turn at 5 under before finishing with a 6-under 65. She leads Minjee Lee and Brittany Lincicome who each shot 66.
“I spoke last night with my mental coach, so like the last three months, four months, it’s not enjoy golf, so I tried to I enjoy golf this week, and he said, one shot at a game, more detail, so I tried more detail today, so that’s why it works good,” Miyazato said.
Lee, the defending champ, birdied four of her first seven holes and was at 6 under before she made her first bogey of the day at 18.
Lincicome also finished making six birdies and one bogey.
“The greens were faster this year than I’ve ever seen them in my life,” Lincicome said. “I think they were faster than any other stop on tour this year, so that was obviously something I had to adjust to because I couldn’t be as aggressive as I wanted to be.”
Eight players are two shots back, including Gerina Piller, and Sei Young Kim.
World No. 1 Lydia Ko struggled for much of her round, and was 5 over during a six-hole stretch. But she bounced back and closed with a birdie for a 73.
