Big names competing at John O'Gaunt GC in
Final Qualifying for Ricoh Women's British Open
Solheim Cup players Trish Johnson, Caroline Hedwall and Gwladys Nocera are in a strong international field for the Final Qualifying event for the Ricoh Women’s British Open at John O’Gaunt Golf Club on Monday, July 25th.
Four amateurs from the GB and Ireland Curtis Cup winning team - Bronte Law, Alice Hewson, Meghan MacLaren of England and Maria Dunne (Ireland) are also taking part as the competitors chase a spot in the third ladies' major of the year, to be played at Woburn from July 28 to 31.
Four Scots, Carly Booth, Gemma Dryburgh, Kelsey Macdonald and Jane Turner, will be going all out to make the final field. Jane did well in the Pre-qualifying competition.
Two English golfers Rebecca McGinley and Emma Goddard were joint winners of the pre-qualifying competition at The Berkshire GC after both shot a round of two-under-par 70.
With 25 others adding their names to a Final Qualifying field of just under 100 golfers from all over the world, home professional Lee Scarbrow believes the ladies will enjoy the challenge of competing on the Bedfordshire course.
He said: “They will come to a course in fantastic condition. Obviously we have had a little bit of rain this year. But that means the course is now lush and perfectly prepared. So they are going to find a tough golf course, but a fair golf course.
“As soon as the club were told about the Ricoh Women’s British Open Final Qualifying, we have been very excited about it because we know that we have a great golf course here for the girls to play. It will be really exciting to see how they handle it."
