Cloe doubles up with English girls’ triumph    Kent’s Cloe Frankish doubled up on her national titles when she won the English girls’ open amateur championship by two shots today at The Nottinghamshire.  Frankish (image © Leaderboard Photography) finished the championship on level par and adds this title to her U16 win last year, commenting: “I’m really happy. I just tried my best, even when things didn’t go my way.”  The 17-year-old from Chart Hills set herself quite a challenge this week. On Monday, she played in final qualifying for the Ricoh Women’s British Open and was involved in a 10-person play-off for the final places, eventually finishing as fifth reserve.  It meant there was no time for practice at The Nottinghamshire and she played the first round blind, scoring three-over par 76 and finishing five shots off the lead. In the second round she was level par, but six shots back.  By then, though, she was getting used to the course and said: “I knew I could play the front nine low and I thought if I could get off to a good start I would be able to  give it a go.”  In this morning’s third round, she did exactly that and was five-under after 10 holes, eventually signing for three-under 70. It lifted her into the lead and her solid final round of level par secured the title.  “I’ve finally got a win,” she laughed, as she looked back on a season which has included runners-up spots in the English women’s open match play, the Irish girls’ championship and scratch events. Now she’s straight off to the Annika Invitational event in Sweden.  Championship runner-up was girl international Emily Price (Cleobury Mortimer) who played today’s 36 holes in two-under par, finishing on two-over.  Sammy Fuller (Roehampton) was third with a pair of level par 73s today for a three-over total, while Scotland’s Alison Muirhead was fourth on five-over.  Click here for full scores Lyndsey Hewison Press Officer England Golf pr@englandgolf.org 07825 752 193
