Spanish girl fails to qualify for British girls'

match-play after  hole in one at 18th

A Spanish girl had a hole in one at the 18th (175yd) in the second qualifying round at the British girls open amateur championship at Royal St David's Golf Club, Harlech yesterday. She holed out with a five-iron at the par-3 hole, playing in left to right wind.
But, tough luck, Maria Herraez Galvez failed to figure among the 64 qualifiers for the match-play stages which began today at the North Wales links.
She had rounds of 77 and 76 for 153 and missed the cut by one shot.
Maria did not see the ball go in the hole but she heard the cheers and knew it must be at least close to the flagstick.
She thinks it was her SIXTH hole in one.
EDITOR: "Thinks" .. if I had had six holes in one I would give you chapter and verse for each, no matter how long ago!
